Here's another common complaint: People see proposed luxury/expensive condos and think/say that's not what's affordable/needed in the neighborhood / not what they want, and believe it'll all be empty, or fear the influx of "new" people who would live in such conditions. Or that the people they know and want in their neighborhood may not be able to afford such places. Sometimes implicit but also sometimes explicit, there's a fear it's all/mostly "foreign".

This also seems to be a lack of understanding of the ladder, and that there indeed are people starting families and pooling incomes, willing to move out of smaller older units or basements, and this does create vacancies elsewhere and relieve price pressures.
