Cars take up a lot of road space

Cars take more than 10X as much road space to transport the same number of people as a bus at 40% occupancy. At 30 km/h, cars take up 65.2 square metres of space per person (assuming 1.4 people per car), compared to only 4.5 square metres for a bus at 40% occupancy. Public transit helps to reduce congestion, by using our limited road space more efficiently.
