Ontario: municipal progress towards 10-year targets
Total housing under construction isn't bad, some municipalities are way behind
Latest update from Mike Moffatt. Time passes quickly: it’s been a year and a half since the province set 10-year targets, so 14% of the time has elapsed.
Municipalities which are behind their targets, counting both completed homes and homes under construction, are shown in yellow. Brampton is only 5.4% of the way to its target of 113,000 homes. Mississauga is 10.9% of the way to its target of 120,000 homes.
If we look only at completed homes, it’s a lot worse. There’s just one municipality, Kingston, which is ahead of schedule.
Moffatt describes the targets as surprisingly pro-density, with most of the housing growth concentrated in just four large cities: Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa, and Brampton.
